This model uses a durable porcelain-lined steel tank designed to perform like a residential water heater and is protected by a replaceable anode rod, which both reduces corrosion and serves as a convenient drain. Suburban’s exclusive flue tube design slows combustion to maximize heat transfer into the water, improving heating efficiency.
The Direct Spark Ignition system eliminates the pilot light, delivering quick, automatic ignition when hot water is needed. A repositionable module board allows greater flexibility during installation.

The SW10DE (5243A) includes a factory electric-heating element, while SW10DEL (5244A) adds the separate 12-volt relay control arrangement. These are distinct factory configurations and should not be ordered interchangeably by model name alone. Confirm the original heater model, gas and control connections and the required 16.38 x 16.38 x 20.50-inch installation cutout before replacement. Optional electrical heating equipment referred to above is not included in the factory SW10D gas-only configuration.
