Description
Forward and reverse traction are managed automatically by the helical gears in this Ford 9-inch Truetrac. Eaton 913A586 has 31 splines and is intended for ratios of 3.25 and higher, with a 1.32-inch journal.
In normal driving it behaves like an open differential. Unequal gear forces on wet, icy, muddy or loose ground shift torque to the wheel with greater grip, using parallel-axis planetary gears for quiet, smooth operation.
Torque bias is strongest going forward and somewhat reduced in reverse or during engine braking. The limited-slip response complements brake-based traction control and helps improve traction and handling. Construction is steel.
