The Dometic FreshJet 5 Rooftop RV Air Conditioner with Heat Pump delivers high-capacity cooling and supplemental heating performance in a compact low-profile rooftop design. Engineered as a direct replacement for Dometic Penguin II rooftop systems, this 15,000 BTU model provides improved comfort, quieter operation, and enhanced reliability for RV applications.
Designed specifically for non-ducted systems, the FreshJet 5 incorporates a built-in hard start system to improve compressor startup reliability and operating performance. The integrated heat pump adds supplemental heating capability for cooler weather conditions, extending seasonal comfort while traveling.
Its low-profile rooftop design helps increase roof clearance while maintaining compatibility with standard 14 Inch x 14 Inch rooftop vent openings. Compared to many previous Penguin II systems, the FreshJet 5 can reduce cabin noise levels by up to 9 decibels for a quieter interior environment.
The reinforced steel base and durable construction provide long-term reliability for demanding RV applications, making this rooftop air conditioner ideal for new RV builds, upgrades, and replacement installations.

Mechanical heat-pump configuration and replacement fit
The Dometic FreshJet 5 FJX5557MHPBKCS is the black 15,000 BTU low-profile rooftop heat-pump model in the mechanical-control family. Dometic's FreshJet 5/Penguin II mechanical installation instructions identify a matching mechanical air distribution assembly, 3314857.000, for the FJX5557MHP family. Unlike the electronic EHP version, this rooftop model must be paired with the mechanical control and ceiling arrangement specified for the installation.
Before replacing an older Penguin II: Keep the replacement references listed above, but check the complete rooftop model, roof framing, gasket, 14-1/4" square opening, 120V AC supply, heat-pump wiring and the chosen ceiling assembly. Existing control wiring and ducting may need changes. Electrical ratings have varied between published installation revisions; select branch protection and wiring using this unit's actual nameplate and current manufacturer instructions, not a generic amperage estimate.
