The FASTFIND 220 sends a distress alert and GPS coordinates through the Cospas-Sarsat network. A flotation pouch is included for carrying the personal locator beacon.

The small, lightweight McMurdo FASTFIND 220 personal locator beacon is intended for emergencies on land or sea. Activation sends a coded unique ID and GPS coordinates on 406MHz through the globally covering polar-orbiting Cospas-Sarsat satellite system, via an earth station to the nearest Rescue Coordination Centre. The internal GPS locates the user to within 62m; the 121.5MHz homing transmitter and flashing high-brightness LED SOS light help rescuers home in. Alerts are described as reaching rescue services within minutes. Unlike vessel-registered EPIRBs that need re-registration when moved between boats, this PLB is registered to a person for use at sea, hiking, mountaineering or other remote locations. No subscription is required, with no ownership cost after purchase as described by the supplier. The safe-stow antenna deploys automatically on activation. The battery provides at least 24 hours of continuous operation and has a 6-year storage life. A self-test facility includes a battery-use indicator. A flotation pouch is supplied.
